Woven Keychains in action

Small weavings can be anything...

These Wool Needles are the best kept secret for weaving in thick amounts of yarn.  They are available in select shops around town in Santa Fe and Taos.  I bought my from Yarn & Coffee in Santa Fe and Vortex Yarns in Taos.  It never hurts to have a few around in case they go missing in action which mine do.

These miniature weavings shall transform into Woven key chains tabs.
More photos to come soon along with the finished product "woven key chains"

For now back to the studio to do some finishing work of weaving the tails into the weave.

Prepping for next Tapestry

For the past few days skeins beyond skeins of yarn have been winded into small balls for both future workshops but also for future woven works.
I say works as I never know what it'll turn into... say wall hanging, woven bag, woven sculptures, and more.

My mind is forever inventing new possibilities but the logistics can take awhile to figure out how to make it successful.

I've been doing some research into other materials for the warping process but also for backings of woven pieces.  Reinforce mesh panels.. hmmm would make a wall piece that much easier to hang but also keep in one form.  Most weavings I've done can be rolled or wrapped and unfolded when on display.  Now my excitement of these new possibilities have me motivated to experiment to see which suits my vision most.  Just one kind of fiber arts product is limiting so more the merrier!

Some yarn balls I've winded today and yesterday in a box.
Winded small balls of yarn from skeins of merino wool, wool, churro wool and more.
Yes You've might have noticed that they are warm tones of the red family.
Preparing for a new work means a day or more of getting the yarn ready to use as I hate stopping what I'm doing to wind a select color into a ball.  Tomorrow I can start weaving some new dreams into being.

Newest Weaving class Flyer in Progress

Howdy All...

Just in the progress of creating a flyer to post around town in Santa Fe, Espanola, and Taos.  Would love to hear what you think. Since leaving the teaching field to make a go as an working artist and workshop instructor theres been a bit of a learning curve to making it work.

One things I've been struggling with is getting the word out there for those individuals who would be interested in taking up weaving or learning a new craft or technique.  I'm always on the lookout for new experiences and techniques which will benefit my own practice as an artist.

Since Timing is very subjective and personal for each of us, I've decided to try and see how making my business more flexible in terms of scheduling workshops or private classes for those creatives interested in learning while in town.  Theres much going on in Santa Fe and sometimes finding out about it is usually too late as it already happened.

So hopefully this will assist us in making contact.

P.S.  If you think of anything else that could make this flyer even better, drop me line here in comments.

Cheers for now,

Friday mania!!!

Ended my trip to Taos with some shots of the snow covered mountains in the distance.
Howdy everyone!  Its been a long day already and its not even four in the afternoon.  I headed out early to Espanola Valley Fiber Arts Center for my first New Mexico Tapestry Weaving workshop I was teaching.  While getting no bookings online I still had hope that someone will show up last minute to take a workshop at 10 in the morning.

walking loom in the front window as well as an old antique spinning loom as well.  Happy Valentines

A gorgeous Mural on the side of the building depicting the history and culture of Northern New Mexico weaving traditions.

Giving it an hour just in case the workshop event happened to be a GO... I waited till 11 am before calling it a day.  In the one hour Twilight zone.. I met some interesting people at EVFAC who included experienced weavers and beginners alike.  It seems winter is NOT a GOOD time to host a workshop as it's cold, and its Friday and there is SNOW on the mountains.

So in optimistic spirit, left some postcards and business cards at the center just in case someone happened to visit from out of town or state for the weekend.  Fingers crossed...

With that done.  It was time to make more progress with workshop promotions for Taos, New Mexico which is about 45 minutes north so I headed there and visited an amazing yarn shop called Vortex yarns!  Oh my just ended up purchasing some additional white roving that is SO SOFT it was irresistible to resist.
Vortex Yarn shop hours... Finally hit pay dirt with the shoppe being open while I was in town.  I've missed my chances the last few trips up north.

An "Water Mark" exhibit in Vortex Yarn showing works by Eliza Wapner.  I'm in love with some of these pieces.  Just amazing feels so cozy and fragile yet STRONG... If you're in Taos stop by and check them out.

Here's an excerpt from the Artist's Statement~

This series uses natural dyes to create color and pattern on the work you see hanging.  These pieces explore water's impact on fabric and color- without water's forceful yet subtle touch, none of this work would be possible.  I use this process as almost a meditation- by using natural materials, i render myself at will to nature's time, causing me to slow down and be patient with a process and its organic outcomes.  This work explores the shared narrative of fabric and nature.

Weaving Magic starts in the morning

How's everyone Valentine's Day go?  I spend the day weaving away and finishing up two prior mini weavings.  It was a mediative day in the weaving magic.  In the evening, was a marathon drama fever binge of a new show.

Finished weaving... soon off the loom
Progress images... from mid January to February 14th...

Check out the following images I took of my progress using a new source of material for my weaving plus a new texture technique called loops which took me awhile to figure out how to achieve.

This tapestry was started about a month ago and finally completed the 2nd half of the tapestry just yesterday.

Loop texture at top right... my recent discovery thanks to Natalie Miller & Chiaki O'Brien
They have been wonderful teachers and mentors in person and online...  Thank you!

Overall, I'm quite happy with it.  Its a organic landscape filled with textures.
In place of clouds there is a golden roses superimposed...  It's like a dreamscape.

I found the lace trimmings on sale at Hobby Lobby as the color/texture tugged at my spirit so here it is in its new forever home.
close up of lace roses trimmings

Lace Rose Trimmings... I'll be using this in the future for "DreamScapes"

The new additions at top are my loopy loops which took some time to figure out how to do.  Plus the Lace Rose Trimmings for the "DreamScape" surrealism element for the landscape tapestry.  I love to mix 2-3 visual layers to create a surrealism dream or mirage.  This just fits so well.

Due to some technical issues, I wasn't able to post anything new for the past two days with Blogger. Finally the issues resolved itself.  So happy as I wanted to share my work with you all.  Enjoy!
