 In 6 weeks from today will be the last weaving workshop for the year. Imagine spending a day surrounded by fibers of all types and being able to include them into your masterpiece of a weaving. 

Well here's your last chance this year to take a workshop with myself, Judy Irene Harney and learn 7-8 weaving techniques to create a variety of textures that will be sure to attract attention.  

There are workshops on Thursday and Friday with the Festival in the park on Saturday and Sunday. So much to do in so little time. Heres the link to check out the workshop listings and nab a space in any of 17 workshops ranging from spinning, weaving, felting and so much more. 

If you are in the Santa Fe area on the following Sundays and Wednesday, stop by the Santa Fe Rail yard Farmers/Artisan market to check out the woven Wall hangings to purchase or check out if these woven wall hangings are something you'll like to learn.

Taos Weaving Workshop this Saturday

A recent woven wall hanging which shows the various textures that will be taught in the workshop
using a FRAME loom, these techniques can be used in any weaving on any loom.

Weaving workshop runs from 10 am thru 4:30 with a lunch break between 11-1pm... 

You can take half hour for lunch and hit the local restaurants or cafes nearby within walking distance.

At the shop you can see some of her large scale fiber work which also has been hand & machine embroidered, needle felted and more.  She's one amazing fiber artist. 

Merce Mitchell's Vortex Yarns has some amazing selection of fibers on offer for sale.

While I will provide white wool roving for the workshop, there is a lot of luscious hand dyed wool roving which you can buy in small amounts as needed. 

Once you used wool roving in your weaving it'll be hard to resist working with it again and again.  I love white roving for puffy white clouds for its wonderful dreamy quality.  How about cotton candy, cherry blossoms, flowering trees in the springtime and more.  so much more

Taos Wool Festival and any other wool festival events have vendors who raise the lovely creatures who produces these lovely fibers.  Its not often I have found a yarn shop that has this amount of wool roving available.

You will receive with workshop 6 hours of hands on instruction and one-on-one attention, a frame loom, warp thread supply, yarn, tapestry needle and a dowel to attach weaving to create your very own woven wall hanging for your home.

April Workshops in Northern New Mexico

Take a weaving workshop in late April if you plan to visit Northern New Mexico for a weekend getaway.  New Workshop dates are now set up for the last weekend in April.

February Workshops in Tapestry Weaving

For the new 2018 Workshop Season

If you visiting New Mexico, why not take a fiber arts workshop in tapestry weaving and leave with a memorable piece of your own art made with your own hands.  

Weaving has a rich cultural history in New Mexico which first inspired me to learn how to weave on a Rio Grande Loom designed by Rachel Brown, the founder of Weaving Southwest which is now run by her granddaughter Teresa Loveless who was one of my mentors in the weaving world.

I LOVED weaving but craved something more and after returning from a 3 month visit to South Korea and Japan I lucked out in taking a workshop in Tapestry Weaving from Natalie Miller, an Australian artist who furthered my interested in tapestry weaving with new ways of creating textures and combining a variety of fibers to create unique shapes and forms in our tapestries.

Now its the time to take it a step further and share my love and muse for Tapestry weaving with others who love handicrafts and hand made items.  The other side effects from weaving is a happier frame of mind and a sense of satisfaction knowing we made it with our own two hands and our waken creativity among others who inspired each other.

 This circle weaving above was warped like a frame loom and challenges appeared due to the nature of the vine loom.  Yet so much to learn and adapt depending upon materials.

Two options available

                                      

 option #1: workshop with loom included $170

 option #2: workshop without loom (you can bring your own) $120

All Options will include the following: 

• Variety of fibers
• Warp 
• Tapestry needle

Some snacks and beverage will be provided with the exception of lunch. 

Project is a Woven Wall Tapestry 

You will learn how to prepare a frame loom for weaving by warping the loom with warp threads.  Other techniques/skills taught will be fringe, plain weave, soumak loops, pile loops, among others.  When weaving, many newcomers to weaving tend to pull too hard on the edges which causes the weaving to pull inwards, so a few pointers during the workshop on how to avoid becoming "blank" during the transition to the next row.  

Color is a huge inspiration and textures can make one color more interesting at a glance to gaze upon.  Here are some inspiration and texture closeups.

Lost in the world of Digital Media...

Digital Media City... The city of the future where technology is key!

Hey everyone!  It's been one of those days that don't quite go as planned.  

Started my day with the usual breaks fast but didn't follow my usual plan of writing things down.  So I started out with the plan to head south to "Happy Quilts" store where I've heard they have tremendous variety of fabrics.   Let when I got on the metro I ended up going the wrong direction.  So had to drop that plan as it would take two hours to arrive and since I know myself with fabric.  I need at least 3 hours or more to look around from what I've read about Happy Quilt.   

So happy quilts is off the table for the day.   Considering my options my eyes wandered and noticed digital media city. Of course for some reason my mind is saying digital media center.  Lol. Oh boy. 

Anyways. Here are some photographs that I took of the public art installations.  

Here's some of the art fences made from the construction materials as the Digital Media City buildings are being built..  But wow. I enjoyed seeing what they came up with.  

This is where I crossed the street to find my way around...

OMG...  Ants are here and they are HUGE... There's swarms of them all over and just marching along.  I thought this was genius. Scare people into keeping the area clean of trash.  

Seems to be a huge mural or something. There are balls of string or something.  Various sizes.  Here's some more shots. 

Some kind of design that uses line to create patterns. Just gave me an idea of what I could do for an art piece after drawing them.  String art for the fiber studio center.  There's a name for it but it's avoiding my grasping handle. M...Mandalas??  Hmm. It'll return when my mind is calm again.

Some more quick shots of the public art that caught my eye.  The buildings are fabulous too but they make for another post in the archecture of Seoul.
